Magnet Charger/Magnetizer

Model 2470-700R

Features

The Model 2470-700R is a medium to high power, capacitor discharge type magnetizer capable of saturating Alnico, Barium Ferrite and some Rare Earth magnet materials. The Model 2470-700R is easily adapted to a wide range of production and laboratory magnetizing requirements. Efficient power supply circuitry enables a rapid recharge rate for high rate production use. The seven position voltage select control allows easy adjustment of the capacitor voltage while an easy to read front panel meter monitors the capacitor voltage. Wound production fixtures provide a high degree of flexibility to enable the saturation of an unlimited number of configurations ranging from two-pole bar magnets to multi-pole rotors, field magnets for motors and virtually any polar arrangement  commensurate with the energy available from this charger

The Model 2470-700R Magnet Charger is designed for rack mounting in most standard 19" rack, electronic enclosures. The medium charging voltage (700 volts maximum) and high capacity storage bank (3,600 uf) allows for the design of a wide range of simple and complex wire-wound fixture designs. The high energy and relatively long pulse length allows many magnet structures to be saturated after assembly into the final magnetic end product. Magnetization of fully assembled, core-type meter movement meters can be achieved using the Model 2470-700R and an appropriate magnetizing fixture.

An optional Protective Hood Assembly (HB-90455) provides a safe method for testing "instant fixtures" which can greatly assist in proving the design of engineering prototype magnet assemblies. The Protective Hood Assembly is also used for magnetizing a wide range of magnetic assemblies and other applications where magnetizing windings may be an integral part of a magnet assembly structure. The interlocked hood assembly prevents operators from coming into contact with the magnetizer output and allows quick and easy hook-up of the magnetizing windings.

The Model 2470-700R and HB-90455 utilize AN/Type connectors for rapid interchange of fixtures  and the Hood assembly. A set of contacts, in the connector, is associated with the internal interlock circuitry of the Model 2470-700R and requires that external charging fixtures incorporate a safety interlock device to provide operator protection.

Specifications

Energy Level & Capacitor Recharge Times:

Charging Voltage Level Position Energy Level Watt-Seconds *Charge Time (To 700 VDC Seconds)
1 46 3
2 112 5
3 208 6
4 303 7
5 450 8
6 606 10
7 880 15

Typical Peak Magnetizing Forces: Peak H will depend upon the impedance of the charging fixture. A peak magnetizing force of approximately 15,000 Oersted can be achieved using an HD-31625 wire-wound fixture.

* The times listed here are capacitor recharge times to 700 VDC. Lower voltages will produce faster recharge times however, actual cycle times may vary depending on fixture cooling requirements and input line voltage.

Power Requirements: 115 or 230 VAC 50/60Hz  (Please specify at time of order)

115 VAC  12 Amps Average 230 VAC  6.0 Amps Average

Magnetizing Pulse Characteristics:
The Model 2470-700R produces a sinusoidal half-wave pulse. Pulse shape and length will depend on the impedance of the fixture used with this unit. A typical pulse with the Model 31625 wire-wound fixture will have a rise time of 7 ms to the peak and an overall pulse length of 32 ms.
