Magnet Charger/Magnetizer

Model 440

Features

Description

The Model 440 is a medium energy, low voltage, capacitor discharge type magnetizer capable of saturating Alnico and Barium Ferrite magnetic materials. The Model 440 is easily adapted to a wide range of production and laboratory magnetizing requirements. A modern solid state electronic control circuit, coupled with rugged, heavy duty discharge SCR and fixture, make this magnetizer a highly reliable, low maintenance unit. The seven position voltage select control allows easy adjustment of the capacitor voltage while an easy to read front panel meter monitors the capacitor voltage. Production fixtures are easily manufactured for virtually all types of polar configurations.

The Model 440 Magnet Charger is designed for bench use or rack mounting in electronic enclosures. The relatively low charging voltage (350 Volts maximum) and high capacity storage bank (7200 uF) allows for the design of a wide range of simple and complex wire wound fixture designs. The charging energy can be increased to 880 watt-seconds by connecting the Model 442 Booster unit.

440.gif (22801 bytes) An optional protective hood assembly (HB-90455) incorporates an electrically interlocked Plexiglass hood which provides a safe method for testing "instant fixtures" which can greatly assist in proving the design of engineering prototype magnet assemblies. The protective hood assembly is also used for magnetizing a wide range of magnetic assemblies and other applications where magnetizing windings may be an integral part of a magnet assembly structure.

The interlocked hood assembly prevents operators from coming into contact with the magnetizer output and allows quick and easy hook-up of the magnetizing windings.

The Model 440 and HB-90455 utilize AN/Type connectors for rapid interchange of fixtures and the hood assembly. A set of contacts, in the connector, is associated with the internal interlock circuitry of the Model 440 and requires that external charging fixtures incorporate a safety interlock device to provide operator protection.

   Specifications

Energy Level & Capacitor Recharge Times: *Charge Time Energy Level (To 350 VDC)

Charging Voltage  Level Position Watt-seconds Seconds Charging Voltage  Level Position Watt-seconds Seconds
1 15  2 5 225  6
2 36 3 6 324 7
3 81 4 7 440 8
4 144 5

Typical Peak Magnetizing Forces:
Peak H will depend upon the impedance of the charging fixture. A peak magnetizing force of approximately 12,000 Oersteds can be achieved using an HD-31625 wire wound fixture.
* The times listed here are capacitor recharge times to 425 VDC. Lower voltages will produce faster recharge times, however actual cycle times may vary depending on fixture cooling requirements and input line voltage.

Power Requirements: 115 or 230 VAC 50/60Hz (Please specify at time of order)

115 VAC 7 Amps Average 230 VAC 3.5 Amps Average

Magnetizing Pulse Characteristics:
The Model 440 produces a sinusoidal half-wave pulse. Pulse shape and length will depend on the impedance of the fixture used with this unit. A typical pulse with the Model 31625 wire wound fixture will have a rise time of 8 ms to the peak and an overall pulse length of 35 ms is produced with the Model 440. The rise time to the peak and overall pulse width will depend on the fixture impedance and the capacitance of the magnetizer.
