Features
Description
The Model 595 is a floor model combination Magnet Charger and Magnetreater® designed for saturating and stabilizing large, highly coercive magnets and magnet assemblies. It uses the stored energy in individual capacitor banks to develop unidirectional pulses for magnetizing and treating modes of operation. The magnetizing and treating pulses are both half-wave sinusoidal in form, with the treating pulse being the reverse polarity of the magnetizing pulse. The applied voltage in each mode is controlled by a front panel mounted potentiometer. The charging and treating voltage is adjustable to a maximum of 800 VDC and is monitored by an individual front panel meter for each mode of operation.
The Model 595 Magnetreater® /Charger is a capacitor discharge device designed for magnetizing permanent magnets or magnet assemblies to saturation. After the magnet or magnet assembly is saturated the operator can apply treating pulses in the reverse direction (polarity), to discharge the same magnet in small, controllable increments until the desired field strength is obtained. A measurement of flux density can be made after each successive pulse utilizing a Gaussmeter or Fluxmeter. Once the desired level is achieved the process can be terminated. This process can be controlled by front panel pushbuttons or by remote control utilizing a computer or external controller.
The maximum energy storage capacity of the Model 595 is 18 Kilojoule. It may be ordered with a minimum capacity of four Kilojoules (two Kilojoules in the Magnetreater® section and two Kilojoules in the Charging section) or in any steps of two Kilojoules up to the maximum capacity. The maximum charging voltage is 800 VDC. Each two Kilojoule bank has a capacitance of approximately 6,200 microfarads. The banks are normally arranged so that the magnetizing section has a greater energy storage capability than the Magnetreater® section; for example, a typical unit with six Kilojoules for charging would have two Kilojoules for treating. The capacity of the storage banks may be changed at any time by strapping in or disconnecting capacitor banks.
All controls are readily accessible and are located on a panel at the front of the unit. Electrical interlock circuitry in both the Model 595 and accessory treating/charging fixtures provide for a high level of operator protection.
Many standard fixtures are available as well as custom designed fixtures to suit individual application requirements.
